The History of TMS
TMS stands for Tension Myositis (later coined Myoneural) Syndrome, a chronic pain condition manifesting from deep emotional factors. This condition was introduced by Dr John E. Sarno, a family and rehabilitation doctor in New York University Medical Center and the Howard Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation.
He stumbled upon the condition after frustration in trying to help his patients deal with and manage their chronic pain, with very inconsistent results. Over the years, he noticed certain patterns and tendencies from his patients, ultimately coming to the conclusion that there is more to chronic pain and many other chronic conditions than just their physical symptoms alone. According to his philosophy, deep rooted emotional factors are the driving force behind TMS and all of TMS equivalents.
This mind body healing program is inspired by the works of Dr. Sarno, continuing his legacy to spread awareness of the true diagnosis and treatment of chronic symptoms and conditons, especially in circumstances where other typical interventions fail.
